Puoi baciare lo sposo
Directed by Alessandro Genovesi
Synopsis
A father, who calls himself "open" and tolerant and fights against any form of discrimination, reveals himself as not so liberal when his son announces the engagement to his partner. Overwhelmed by the news, he regresses into the most fierce opponent of same-sex marriage, and tries to undermine his son's happiness with a series of embarrassing situations.

Sólo a un gay se le ocurre armar un musical a media boda para poder decir “Te amo”, sin pena.

Review by The Baroness In The Trees ★★★
I’ve watched this film with my parents, as they really wanted to see it.
It’s simple, the acting is very good and it’s fairly funny as a whole. It works with many italian stereotypes, which never fail to make italians laugh.
The setting, Civita, is breathtaking. It’s not revolutionary, it may not be a masterpiece, but it’s important. It’s a gay rom-com like many other straight rom-coms, but it’s essential for its message to arrive to everyone- as the actors are all famous and appreciated in Italy, a great amout of people went to the cinema to watch it.
I liked the character of Roberto, Antonio’s father. I’ve seen it happen quite a lot, and my mother always says that every parent is open and accepting until it happens to their child.

"All revolutions were started by crazy people."
This. This is why I take Letterboxd reviews with a grain of salt. They said it sucked. That the subtitles were awful. Well, I have seen awful movies celebrated, and fantastic films savaged. Art is indeed subjective. I do know one thing: I genuinely laughed throughout this movie. I actually know people like this. It felt familiar. It felt believable (my elderly Dad is Dalmatian so I recognized quite a few of the Italian words as his generation had quite a few interpolated in their dialect). I had a blast.
I'm not gonna lie, I saw that ending coming before I pressed play. But this IS supposed to be silly, satirical and feel…
