This Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation is not a newly launched product. However, I’ve been on the fence about buying it due to the price. I’ve swatched it several times in-store to find the right shade, which was tough, but I put it back every time.

Eventually, as I kept looking at the foundation and saw that there was a sale going on, I decided to try it and see how I liked it. So, finally, I’m sharing all my thoughts about the Dior Backstage Foundation.

6.8Expert Score

Dior Backstage Face And Body Foundation

It’s definitely a nice foundation, but it won’t cover many imperfections. I like this on days when I want a little coverage, but I won’t wear it when I have breakouts, for example. The formula is nice and lightweight, but also a bit creasing and accentuating dry areas if you don’t use a hydrating product beneath.

Pros

  • Lightweight formula
  • Natural matte finish
  • It evens out skin tone

Cons

  • Creases around the mouth
  • Fades on chin and nose after 6 hours
  • Can accentuate dry areas

Dior Foundation Review

Honest Dior Backstage Face And Body Foundation Review (1)

The shade I picked up is 2N, as I have a more neutral undertone. I have to say that I struggled a bit with shade matching this Dior Foundation. I seriously doubted a lot between 1N, 2N, and 3N. However, I’m glad I didn’t pick up 3N because it would’ve been too dark for my skin tone.

2N is a pretty decent match, but I have to be a little tanned to wear it, so I would say this is more of my summer shade. It’s too dark for my light skin, especially compared to my neck, during the winter.

Pigmentation

The pigment is decent, but I wouldn’t necessarily say it has a medium coverage. I think a light coverage is more fitting, with the option to build up the coverage to medium. I sometimes have red cheeks, which I want to cover, but I have to put two layers on my face to make it less visible.

Even with two layers, the redness still shows through the foundation a little bit. Also, I can still see my little moles and freckles through the foundation.

Formula

It’s a lightweight formula; you can barely feel you’re wearing foundation, giving you a natural look. I also like how this Dior Backstage Foundation is for the body as well since it can be pretty convenient to cover up a mosquito bite or a bruise if you want to – however, as I already explained, the coverage is light to medium, so you won’t be able to cover it all. Just like how you won’t be able to cover acne or rosacea.

It evens the skin tone, covers small impurities, and makes the skin look fresh while mattifying. I love a matte finish since I tend to have an oily-looking t-zone. Sadly, I do have to say that I’ve seen the Dior foundation crease around my mouth (the smile lines) very quickly, and it accentuates my drier areas, such as around the cheeks.

If you have dry skin or dry areas like I do, it’s best to use a hydrating moisturizer or primer before you apply the Dior Foundation. This will help smoothen and moisturize the skin, so it doesn’t accentuate the dry areas much.

Overall, the formula is very nice and lightweight. It works well for people who want some coverage but still want to keep it minimal and natural.

Application

The bottle isn’t my favorite. It looks absolutely stunning, but it’s not easy to get the product out. You have to squeeze it out, making it more challenging to get the right amount of product. I’ve had multiple times where I squeezed out way too much, which is a waste since the foundation isn’t cheap.

Longevity

The Dior Backstage Foundation is a very decent long-wearing foundation. I did notice some fading around places I often touch with my hands (such as my chin or nose), and as I already said, I noticed some creasing around my mouth. Other than that, I experienced nothing but a good-looking base.

To improve longevity, I recommend wearing a primer and setting it with a setting spray. I wouldn’t recommend setting with a powder, as the finish of the foundation is already matte, and a powder will accentuate this.

Lastly, I don’t think this Dior Foundation is waterproof. I haven’t really tested this, but as it already faded on my chin and nose with no water or sweat involved, I don’t think it’ll survive lots of water. It may hold up a bit when it comes to some water or sweat, though.

Alternatives

  • Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation: The Stay Naked Foundation is one of my favorite products regarding a lightweight, natural, non-powdery, or cakey finish. This foundation looks like I have nothing on while also making my skin look flawless. Truly recommend trying this!
  • NARS Light Reflecting Foundation: NARS knows precisely what they’re doing regarding base products. The Light Reflecting Foundation became my new favorite after just one application; my skin looks so sleek and flawless; it covers everything I want to cover but doesn’t ever look cakey.
  • Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer: Even though I have a love-hate relationship with this Rare Tinted Moisturizer, the formula and finish are quite similar to the Dior Foundation. However, the Rare one is way more affordable and even contains SPF.

Final Verdict

It’s definitely a good foundation, but it won’t cover many imperfections. I like this on days when I want a little coverage, but I won’t wear it when I have breakouts, for example. The formula is nice and lightweight, but also a bit creasing and accentuating dry areas if you don’t use a hydrating product beneath.

If you’re into lightweight, matte, and light coverage foundations, I’m sure you’ll like this!

What Is The Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation

Honest Dior Backstage Face And Body Foundation Review (3)

Dior Face and Body Foundation is the Dior makeup artists’ secret weapon to create a flawless, runway-ready complexion for the face and body.

Its natural finish and lightweight texture can also be used on the body, revealing the skin’s radiance while camouflaging minor imperfections on the neck, shoulders, and legs.

This waterproof formula fuses with skin, resisting extreme conditions like workout sessions, water, and even high temperatures and humid environments.

It can also camouflage minor imperfections on the neck, shoulders, legs, or anywhere else. Best of all, it’s available in 40 shades with a natural matte finish, which is actually Dior’s largest foundation range ever,

Best Suited For

The Dior Backstage Foundation works for:

✔ Normal
✔ Dry
✔ Combination
✔ Oily

It has light to medium coverage and a matte finish.

How To Use

You can easily apply the Dior Backstage Foundation with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush. Squeeze some product onto your hand or brush, apply it to the face, and blend it in.

Things To Note

The Dior Backstage Foundation is free of sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.

Sephora also states that this Dior foundation is also vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free and comes in recyclable packaging. The fact that they call it cruelty-free is strange to me because Dior as a brand isn’t cruelty-free, so I’m not sure why this product is marked cruelty-free.

FAQ

The Dior Backstage Foundation has a matte finish.

The Dior Backstage Foundation should also be suited for dry skin; however, after experiencing and testing this foundation – I don’t think it’s the best product for people with dry skin.

I have combination skin, and it did accentuate my drier areas and creased around my mouth easily. Before applying this foundation, a hydrating primer or moisturizer is definitely needed for people with dry skin.

The Dior Backstage Foundation is water-based.
